Blind Drawings, 2000
These one hour meditation drawings were made while using Continuum practice. This method is a dynamic inquiry into the unfolding fluidity of our bodies through specific breathing techniques. I used the Sip, Luna, and Hoo breaths to sense my own patterns of rhythm, and vibration. Charcoal, ink, a twig and strands of hair were used for making marks. I blindfolded myself so that I would be less involved with “constructing” a composition. Fifty drawings were made.
Meditation Drawings, 2005
These drawings were made in a one hour time frame. I went back and forth between meditating for 10 minutes, and drawing or erasing continuously for the same amount of time. Each attempt to make marks was an endeavor to record a path of thought as it arose in my mind. Words and imagery interchanged. The distance between thought and the re-presentation was documented without success.
Public Signals, 2009
I have gathered ephemera from the streets of San Francisco for over fifteen years. As a collection of data, these bits of matter are in a state between culture and nature. In their condition, they carry what Walter Benjamin calls a “dream wish,” a thing which once had potential, but is now in a state of decomposition. Creating various assemblages or not (some objects have their own special power) is a kind of drawing.
